· Enforced perfect discipline among the students with the right blend of kindness and firmness
· Launched the free mid-day lunch scheme to all the visually handicapped students of the Presidency College
getting voluntary contributions from the staff of the college.
· Helped to launch the ‘Computer Literacy Program for College Students’ for the entire Tamilnadu by the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu.
· Improved the infrastructure facilities for the Presidency College; gave a face-lift to the College;
provided several amenities for the welfare of the students.
· Established the Sir C. V. Raman Hall over the library of the Presidency College – from a hitherto
unutilized dingy space for decades, by refurbishing and providing an ambient atmosphere in the Hall.
The annual Convocations and the examinations are conducted in this Hall henceforth.
The Convocations used to be held in the open earlier.
· Reclaimed several lakhs worth of furniture from the broken furniture
· Reclaimed two unused ‘Rest Rooms’ and converted them into two classrooms!
· Generated more funds for the PTA and the expenses for almost all the welfare measures were met from the PTA Funds
and not from the Government funds.
· Gave a green cover to the College that one sees today.
· Improved the facilities for the hostel inmates.
· As a result, he is rated as one of the very best principals of the Presidency College, Chennai, in recent times.
· Presented a report to the UGC on the ‘Specification of Degrees’, under the guidance of Dr. M. Anandakrishnan, creating a database
of all the courses conducted in all the then 230 universities in the country. The UGC has since implemented this report in all
the universities in the country.
· Helped to develop the concept of ‘Cluster Colleges’ under the guidance of
Dr. M. Anandakrishnan, Vice-Chairman, TANSCHE, Chennai.
· Organized a Seminar on University Administration for the Registrars and Controllers of Examinations of all the Universities
in Tamilnadu.
· Organized several Programs to draft model syllabi for various subjects: Commerce and Management Courses, Computer Science
Courses, Mathematics and Statistics Courses, to be adopted by the universities.
· Organized a Seminar on the Revised Guidelines on the Scheme of Autonomous Colleges jointly with the Loyola College, Chennai.
· Organized several hundreds of in-service Teacher Training Programs for the benefit of school teachers drawn from
the Middle School to the Higher Secondary School level.
· Possibly he is the only one person who was a member of all the statutory bodies of the University of Madras.
· Introduced several bold and transparent innovations in finalizing the tenders and saved several lakhs of rupees to the
University of Madras in the process.
· In the last ten years, as a facilitator for the ‘Foundation For Excellence’ [US based organization of Indian Immigrants] helped
about hundred bright students, but economically handicapped, studying professional courses to get scholarship about
one lakh rupees amounting to about one crore rupees.
